The education system in the UK is divided into four main parts, which are primary education, secondary education, further education and higher education. Children in the UK begin to go to school at age 5 and continues until age 11. This period is the time of Primary education. From age 11 to 16, students will enter secondary school for key stages. Once a student finishes secondary education they have the option to extend into further education to take their A-Levels. In the UK most undergraduate degree programs take three years to finish, however, the “sandwich course” is increasing in popularity, which is four years and involves one year in the work place.
The same part of the two countries educational system is they all have compulsory education, without charges fees. Education in UK is compulsory. Children are legally obliged to attend school from the ages of five or four in Northern Ireland to 16. But the time of Chinese compulsory education is 9 year, including primary school and junior middle school. The students will learn five or six years in primary school and three or four years in junior middle school.

Chinese students study very hard, because it implement College Entrance Examination to check the student’s ability. This system could let students have tough basic, it is helpful for consolidate student’s knowledge. The other advantage is it can promote social development and overall catizens qualitng. In China, education is held in high esteem and teachers enjoy high status in the community. Students generally respect their teachers, take pride in being studious and behave well in class. Pupils in the study took on administrative and domestic responsibilities (such as cleaning) for the school and supported each others’ learning.
No matter what, it still has some disadvantages. Chinese education system emphasize the knowledge on the books. This could result in the students lack of independent opinion, do not care about the knowledge outside the books. The system also emphasize on teacher’s teaching not the students’ individual idea. This could make the students lack of creativity.
Advantage and Disadvantage in UK education
One major advantage of UK education is its one-year Masters Degree for almost all courses, saving you considerable time and money. All of this means that you’ll finish your course with a good understanding of UK language and culture that will give you a good start in your search for a new or improved international career. In UK, the main role is student not the teacher. They will let the student full of creativity. Another advantage is The British teachers have more salary than the Chinese teachers have ,the UK head teachers have much more than his employee, but in China the principal’s salary is a little bit higher than his staff. But it also has some disavantages. it is when the young people finish the compulsory education, they will join in low-skill and income work. it is not helpful to improve society labor quality development, productivity level and international competitiveness skill.
Taking all these factors into consideration, we may safely come to the conclusion that Chinese and British educational system have their own advantages and disadvantages, good aspects and bad aspects. If we want to improve the educational system to benefit our next generation, we have to learn the advantages and good aspects of the Chinese and British Educational system.
